Description
Published by Victor Gollancz, 1975, 1st UK Edition, slight foxing edges, D/w, Nr. Fine. Anderl Heckmair (1906-2005) is most famous for the first ascent of the Eiger North Face in 1938 when, as the most experienced mountaineer in the party that also contained Heinrich Harrer, Ludwig Vorg and Fritz Kasparek, he led most of the hard pitches on the face. He went on to obtain his guide’s certificate and climb widely. As well as first and early ascents in the Alps, he climbed and travelled in Morocco, Lapland, the Himalayas, and South, Central and North America.
