Putnam’s New York, 1955, 2nd Impression of 1st US Edition, Insc, some wear edges, D/w (wear and small tears edges and part missing top of spine), V.G.   Tenzing Norgay (1914-1986) was one of the greatest of the Sherpa mountaineers of his generation and is best known for the first ascent of Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953.  Tenzing climbed on Everest 7 times, including 3 British Everest Expeditions in the 1930s, an attempt with Earl Denman in 1947, and 2 Swiss Expeditions in 1952 (reaching over 28,000 feet with Raymond Lambert), along with many other Himalayan climbs including Nanda Devi East.  Following Everest, Tenzing became much revered in Nepal and India, and later became director of field training for the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, as well as setting up his own company, Tenzing Norgay Adventures, which offered trekking trips in the Himalayas.
