Description
Published by The Mountain Heritage Trust, 2001, 1st UK Edition, large landscape-format softback, Nr. Fine. Produced in conjunction with the National Mountaineering Exhibition, this volume is a very readable and surprisingly comprehensive ‘sampler’ of British mountaineering history. It packs a lot into its beautifully produced and very well illustrated 120 pages, from Coleridge in the Lake District in 1802 through the developments of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including, amongst others, sections on the Alps (Golden Age), Rock in the UK, the Great Game worldwide, Everest, Hidden Himalaya, the Cragrats, Himalayan Circus to Alpine Style, Modern Times and Mountain Peoples. All the key British ‘players’ are featured or profiled.
