Published by Edward Arnold, London, 1914, 1st UK Edition, No D/w, Bookplate, Insc, bright copy, Fine.    Malcolm Ross (1862-1930) was a New Zealand mountain climber, journalist and war correspondent, who was a founding member of the New Zealand Alpine Club which was established in 1891 and of which he was the first Vice-President.  The book consists of early climbs in the Mount Cook area on the South Island of New Zealand, including Ross’s own successful fourth ascent of the mountain in 1906 and sections on Across The Southern Alps and The First Crossing of Mount Cook.  Illustrated with photographs in black-and-white by the author.  One of the few early books on New Zealand mountaineering.
