Description
Published by The Popular Book Club, 1958, No D/w, spine faded, V.G. Classic account by well known writer and traveler Eric Newby of two amateur and inexperienced climbers (himself and Hugh Carless) and their attempt to make the first ascent of the Himalayan peak of Mir Samir (19,050 feet) in 1956 in Nuristan in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan. With only a little scrambling in Wales as background, inadequate equipment and a meagre supply of canned food, they set out on their journey by Jeep from Istanbul. Their attempt was ultimately unsuccessful, but their many adventures along the way make for a delightful and humorous story.
