Published by Aperture, New York, 1980, 1st US Edition in this format, but this is a revised reprint of the classic biography by Nancy Newhall first published by Sierra Club Books in 1963 in their Exhibit Format Series, Insc, D/w, Nr. Fine.  Newhall’s eloquent biography traces Adams’ life and career from 1902 through 1938, with attention given to not only his Sierra Nevada work, but also his New Mexico and nature studies efforts.  This is a fine collection of Ansel Adams (1902-1984) classic black-and-white photography, with Nancy Newhall (1908-1974), writer and photography critic, providing a rich and classic text from having worked with Adams on four publications over a 20 year period.  She died in a tragic accident on the Snake River in 1974.
