Description

Published by Doubleday & Company, New York, 1986, 1st US Edition, D/w, Fine.    The book is divided into two halves, the first written by Sir Edmund Hillary and the second by Peter Hillary, though their narratives interweave as they describe their separate impressions of their lives, both together and apart.  New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary (1919-2008) will be best remembered for the first ascent of Everest in 1953 with Sherpa Norgay Tenzing and for his support of the Sherpa people of Nepal through his Himalayan Trust which built schools and hospitals.  His son Peter, also a Himalayan mountaineer, climbed Everest in 1990, making him and his father the first father and son to succeed on the mountain, and again in 1993 as part of the Fiftieth Anniversary celebrations of the first ascent.  This book is the US edition of Two Generations, first published in 1984 in the UK.
