Travels in the Hindu Kush and Karakorams
By Maureen Lines
Published by Oxford Illustrated Press, Somerset, 1988, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. This book is the culmination of many months of journeys over a number of years by the widely travelled author into the remote lands of the Hindu Kush and Karakoram of Pakistan, and of her visits to the Kalash people in Birir, Rumbur and Bumberet, who now number only 4,000 and are the last in this vast region to withstand conversion to Islam. She now stays in this area for several months of the year. It also tells of her journeys into more well-known places such as Peshawar, Chitral, Gilgit, Chilas and Hunza. Well illustrated with the author’s black-and-white photographs.
