Benson ( -1932), member of the Climbers’ Club and the Yorkshire Ramblers’ Club, was also the author of Crag and Hound in Lakeland (1902) and Mountaineering Ventures (1928).  This well illustrated and  attractive volume was a classic instructional text in its day, covering sections on equipment, practice climbs on low crags, rock climbing, winter climbing, severe courses, mountaineering in Skye, mountaineering for ladies, dangers, and medical hints.
