A history of British mountaineers and mountaineering from the establishment of the Alpine Club in 1857 through to 1940, by Frank Smythe (1900-1949), English mountaineer, prolific author, photographer and botanist, who led the first ascent of Kamet (7,756 metres) and took part in 3 Everest Expeditions in 1933, 1936 and 1938. A short book of only 48 pages, but with 8 colour plates and 22 black-and-white illustrations – part of the Britain in Pictures series from publishers Collins.
