John Allen joined the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue in 1972 after the Cairngorm Plateau Disaster of 1971, becoming Team Leader in 1989 until his retirement in 2007, took part in over 1000 rescues, and had the call sign Cairngorm John when speaking to RAF and Navy helicopter rescues.
