Description
Published by Faber & Faber, 2016, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. In this book, Dan Richards is on the trail of his great-great-aunt, Dorothy Pilley (Mrs I.A. Richards, 1894-1986), a prominent and pioneering mountaineer of the early twentieth century who, amongst other achievements, made the first ascent of the North North West Ridge of the Dent Blanche with her husband, I.A. (Ivor) Richards and Joseph and Antoine Georges in 1928. Dan, and his family, knew little of Dorothy Pilley until he read her well regarded 1935 memoir, also called Climbing Days, and determined to find out more by following in her footsteps. In doing so, he has produced a beautiful and very readable portrait of a trailblazing woman.
