Description

Published by Adam & Charles Black, London, 1957 (New Edition – first published in 1929), Insc, D/w (wear at edges and small pieces missing at edges), V.G.   Wide ranging and autobiographical, this was the first book (and Neate suggests possibly the best book) by Frank Smythe (1900-1949), English mountaineer, prolific author, photographer and botanist.  It covers his early days climbing in the UK, climbs in the Dolomites and Corsica, and a final four chapters on climbs in the Mont Blanc area.  Some of the chapters had first appeared in magazines, such as The Cornhill Magazine and Blackwood’s Magazine. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs.
