Achille Ratti (1857-1939) was not only an academic within the Catholic Church who went on to become Pope Pius XI in 1922, he was also an avid mountaineer who reached the summits of Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and Presolana in Lombardy.
