Description

Published by Macmillan, Toronto, 1965, 1st Canadian Edition, D/w, Nr. Fine.    Paddy Sherman was a British born journalist and mountaineer.  Born in 1928, he emigrated to Canada in 1952 when he was told that there were unclimbed 10,000 foot mountains within fifty miles of Vancouver.  He made first ascents of Mount Gilbert, Mount Matier, Joffre Peak and Mount Harrison in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as organising and leading the British Columbia Centennial Expedition to Mount Fairweather in 1958, at 15,300 feet the highest point in British Columbia, but which had never been climbed before by Canadians.  This, his first book, provides an account of significant achievements in Canadian alpine history, including the successive attempts to climb Mount Waddington, as well as climbs on Fairweather, Robson, Logan, Howson and Slesse.
