Description

Published by Grafton Books, London, 1986, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine.   Well-written autobiography by Julie Tullis (1939-1986) who was a British climber and filmmaker who died while descending from K2 during the disastrous summer of 1986, when K2 saw 9 expeditions and 27 successful ascents, but also when 13 climbers died, 7 after reaching the summit.  Though Julie Tullis had an adventurous life, she only took up high altitude mountaineering when she was 38, starting in the Peruvian Andes and moving on to the Himalayas. She teamed up with Kurt Diemberger to climb and film on Nanga Parbat, made further trips to Everest, K2 and Nanga Parbat, became the first British woman to climb an 8,000 metre peak, and her films for French, Italian, German and British television won international prizes.
