Published by George Philip, London, 1982, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Nr. Fine. The story of the International Karakoram Project 1980, which was the Royal Geographical Society’s 150th Anniversary Expedition. The project combined traditional motives of exploration, the lure of remote, difficult and unknown terrain, with scientific ambition to use the Karakoram as a testing ground for theories on continental drift, mountain building and decay and to study the effects of ever-present hazards on the local population. The project consisted of 73 expedition members and Keith Miller tries to paint a wide canvas of those involved, but also the cultural, historical and political context in which the Project operated.
