Description
Published by NTI, Krakow, 1997, 1st English Language Edition, Pictorial Cover – No D/w issued, Fine. Signed by the author on the title page. Wielicki is a Polish alpinist and high-altitude climber, regarded as one of the best Polish mountaineers in history. He was the fifth man to climb all fourteen 8,000 metre peaks (after Messner, Kukuczka, Loretan and Carsolio) and the first ever to climb Everest, Kangchenjunga and Lhotse in winter. His first 8,000 metre peak was Everest (the first winter ascent of an 8,000er) in 1980 and he completed all fourteen with Nanga Parbat in 1996 (all bar three of the fourteen were by new routes, alpine style, solo or in winter). This volume, of which only around 500 were printed in English, is very well illustrated with colour photographs, route diagrams, maps (including end-paper maps showing all fourteen mountains).
