He climbed many classic peaks including Mont Blanc, Mount Kenya, and Mount Cook, and pioneered ski mountaineering expeditions in Turkey, Spain and Greece.  A former Vice President of The Alpine Club, and President of both the Alpine Ski Club and the Eagle Ski Club, he has written and lectured extensively about his mountain adventures and wrote Pyrenean High Route, an account of the first British ski traverse of the Pyrenees, which was shortlisted for The Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature.
