Description

Published by The Travel Book Club, London, (1955), Book Club Edition of the 1st Edition which was published in the same year, D/w (worn at edges, creases on spine, stained on rear), V.G.    Tom Weir (1914-2006) was a Scottish climber, author and broadcaster, who was a member of the 1950 Scottish Himalayan Expedition, the first post-war Himalayan expedition.  Later in life, in 2000, he was awarded the inaugural John Muir Lifetime Achievement Award by the John Muir Trust in recognition of his environmental work.  This book tells the story of his return to the Himalaya in 1952 on the Scottish Nepal Expedition, with Douglas Scott (not, as some assume, Doug Scott who was 11 at the time!), Tom MacKinnon and George Roger.  They explored the Rolwaling Gorge and climbed several peaks up to 22,000 feet to the west of Everest, south-east of Gaurisankar, on a four month journey of exploration.  The book is also a vivid and colourful account of Nepal, her mountains and gorges, her villages and her peoples.
