Description
Published by The Oxford Illustrated Press, 1989, 2nd Revised UK Edition, D/w, Fine. Walt Unsworth (1928-2017) was an English writer, editor and publisher, for many years editor of the UK Climber magazine, and the founder with Brian Evans and their respective wives, Dorothy and Aileen, of Cicerone Press, one of the major guidebook imprints in the outdoor market. This volume is the “Definitive history of Everest climbing” (Neate), providing a wealth of detailed historical information up to 1989, including a summary of Expeditions 1921-1989, listing of ascents and fatalities, and a very good bibliography. Unsworth was supported in producing this magnus opus by a number of mountaineering historians, none more so than Audrey Salkeld. A must for any historian of Everest, but also well written and illustrated.
