Description
Published by Thomas Nelson, London, 1942, Small format reprint of 1936 1st Edition, t.e.g., slight foxing edges, D/w, V.G. Francis Younghusband (1863-1942) was a British Army officer, mountaineer, explorer and spiritual writer, best remembered for travels in the Far East and Central Asia (and his 1896 work The Heart of a Continent detailing those travels), and for leading the controversial 1904 British Expedition to Tibet. Younghusband held positions including British commissioner to Tibet and President of the Royal Geographical Society. Though concentrating on the history of Everest exploration to date, this book also covers a wider Himalayan perspective with attempts on Nanga Parbat, K2, Kangchenjunga and other peaks. Includes a new account covering the 1936 Everest Expedition which took place after the first edition was published.
