Published by George Allen & Unwin London, 1954, 1st English Edition, D/w, Fine.   These Swiss expeditions paved the way for the British expedition’s success in 1953 and came close to success themselves, with Raymond Lambert and Sherpa Tenzing reaching around 8,500 metres on the south-west ridge in the spring, before being thwarted by bad weather and faulty oxygen equipment.  An autumn attempt, never before attempted, saw Ernst Reiss and Tenzing reach around 8,100 metres.
