Published by Hedgehog House, Christchurch, 1997, 1st New Zealand Edition, D/w, Fine. Colin Monteath, mountaineer, photographer and close friend of both Rob Hall and Gary Ball, wrote this large format, very well illustrated, volume as a tribute to and profile of his two long-time friends. Hall and Ball, with 47 international expeditions between them, formed one of the most dynamic and accomplished mountaineering partnerships New Zealand had ever seen. Following an ascent of Everest in 1990, they climbed the seven highest summits on the seven continents in just seven months. In 1991, they formed Adventure Consultants to guide clients, particularly on Everest. Rob Hall (1961-1996) and Gary Ball (1953-1993) died, respectively, on Everest in the violent storm and tragedy of 1996, and on Dhaulagiri of pulmonary oedema while being lowered down to the North East Col.
