Published by Alpine Sports in association with Victor Gollancz, London, 1982, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. The special edition of a 1,000 copies commissioned by Alpine Sports to mark the first lecture tour of Messner to England and Scotland. Signed by both author Ronald Faux and Messner. The author, Ronald Faux, was a journalist who worked for The Times and specialised in mountaineering. He has written the standard biography of Messner, covering all the key events to date, including childhood, early climbs in the Dolomites and the Alps, the North Face of the Eiger with Habeler, Himalayan alpine-style exploits, , the death of his brother Gunther on Nanga Parbat, and the controversies that ensued and, finally, Everest solo without supplementary oxygen. A rewarding book, technically and emotionally absorbing.
