Published by The Globe Pequot Press (Falcon), Connecticut, 2004, 1st US Edition, Softback (card covers), Fine.    Ira Spring (1918-2003) was an American photographer, author, mountaineer and hiking advocate.  He was the photographer and co-author, with his twin brother Bob and Harvey Manning of the 100 Hikes series of books published by The Mountaineers.  This large format softback volume is generously illustrated with their stunning black-and-white photographs, accompanied by the stories behind the pictures, making this book both a fascinating chronicle of the Springs’ work but also an informal history of mountaineering in the Northwest during its “classic age” from the late 1930s to the early 1970s.  Renowned climbers such as Fred Beckey, Willi Unsoeld and Jim and Lou Whittaker also feature in the book.
