Shiro Shirahata (1933-2019) was a Japanese photographer who devoted his entire adult life to photographing the major mountains of the world, with the Shiro Shirahata Prize in Japan being the most prestigious Japanese award for mountain photography. His other major books include The Alps, The Karakoram: Mountains of Pakistan and The Rocky Mountains. This large-format full colour volume on the Nepal Himalaya provides 115 superb photographs, divided into Kangchenjunga Region, Makalu Region, Khumbu & Rolwaling Himal, Jugal Langtang and Ganesh Himal, Manaslu Region, Annapurna Himal, Dhaulagiri Himal and West Nepal, all full page and with 69 being double-page spreads. Each of the regions has a sketch map and there are detailed notes on all of the photographs in a section at the end of the volume. The quality of both the photographs and the reproduction is outstanding.
