Brigadier-General The Honorable Charles Granville Bruce (1866-1939) was a veteran Himalayan mountaineer who, following 10 alpine seasons including the ‘Alps from End to End’ with Conway, went on expeditions to the Karakoram with Conway (1892), to the Hindu Kush with Younghusband (1893), to Nanga Parbat with Mummery and Collie (1895) and to Trisul with Longstaff (1907). This led to him being appointed leader of both the 1922 and 1924 British Everest Expeditions (though Norton took over leadership in 1924 when Bruce contracted malaria before the expedition started). Bruce was President of the Alpine Club (1923-25). This volume is autobiographical covering most of the expeditions mentioned.
