Description
Published by George G Harrap, London, 1944, Reprint, small format leather binding (a little worn), no D/w (not issued with one), gilt embossed spine, V.G. This classic book, a surprise bestseller when published and still in print today, describes how Thomas Firbank, a Canadian, bought a 2,400 acre sheep-farm in Snowdonia at the age of 21 in the early 1930s and, with his first wife Esme, worked hard to develop the farm. Esme was a conservationist who, later, together with her second husband Peter Kirby formed the Snowdonia National Park Society to ensure the mountains were protected from future development – the farm was left to the National Trust. Though mostly about the farm and Welsh rural life in the 1930s, the book includes possibly an early record on The Welsh Three Thousanders (crossed in under 9 hours) and a chapter on Firbank’s climbing experiences.
