Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1989, 1st UK Edition, Insc, D/w, Fine. The author, himself a climber, has, as a journalist working mainly for The Times and The Sunday Times, covered mountaineering in the national press for over 20 years, initially covering the Harlin Direct Route on the Eiger in 1966. He has documented the careers and climbs of leading mountaineers, including Bonington, Haston, Boardman, Tasker and Venables, as well as climbers such as Fawcett, Brown, Patey and Leach. These 40 articles, with new introductory sections by Gillman, also include Cerro Torre, Mallory and Irvine, the K2 tragedies of 1986, and an interview with J.B.L. Noell who explored the north side of Everest in 1913.
