K2 The 1939 Tragedy

Published by The Mountaineers/Diadem Books, Washington/London, 1992, 1st UK/US Edition, D/w, Fine.   Following the availability of a recent contemporary diary from one of the members of the Expedition, combined with conflicting historical data, the authors reconstruct the events which led to the tragic deaths of American Dudley Wolfe and three Sherpas, Pasang Kikuli, Pasang Kitar and Phinsoo on the 1939 American K2 Expedition.  A tragic tale told some 50 years after the events of Weissner’s controversial expedition which got to within 800 feet of the summit, with the mountain finally being climbed by the Italian expedition of 1954.
