Description
Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1956, 1st UK Edition, D/w (slight nicks), Nr. Fine. Account by the expedition leader of the first ascent of Kangchenjunga (8,586 metres, the third highest mountain in the world) in May 1955. George Band and Joe Brown summited, followed by Norman Hardie and Tony Streather a day later. Out of respect for local beliefs, the actual summit itself remained ‘untrodden’, a tradition that continued until more recent times.
