The previous attempt on this route was by the Chris Bonington led expedition in 1982 (chronicled in Bonington and Charles Clarke’s book ‘Everest The Unclimbed Ridge’) on which Pete Boardman and Joe Tasker disappeared at over 8,000 metres on their summit attempt. Mal Duff’s team were also unsuccessful, though the lead climbers got to around 8,000 metres,
