Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1992, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Mint.    John Roskelley is an American mountaineer and author who has made first ascents and notable ascents of 7,000 and 8,000 metre peaks in Nepal, India and Pakistan, including the first ascents of Great Trango Tower (1977), Gauri Sankar (1979), Uli Biaho Tower (1979) and Cholatse (1982).  This volume describes his expeditions to two Himalayan peaks, Tawoche in Nepal (1989) and Menlungtse in Tibet (1990), the former succeeding on a new route on the north-east face of the mountain and the latter unsuccessful (the first ascent of Menlungtse’s main peak was achieved by a Slovenian team in 1992).  Roskelley also writes well about his approach to Himalayan climbing, about the people of Nepal and Tibet, the beauty of their landscapes, and the hardships of their lives.
