Description
Published by Thomas Nelson & Sons, London, 1946, 2nd Edition – Reprint of 1941 1st Edition, Insc, No D/w, spine faded, cloth dull and a few marks, V.G. Written as an instructional book for youngsters by the legendary Colin Kirkus who, with Menlove Edwards, dominated Welsh rock-climbing in the 1930s. A cousin of Wilfrid Noyce, Kirkus was killed in 1942 on active service whilst flying for the RAF, his death robbing the climbing world of one of its most talented and inspirational climbers. The book covers the progression of mountaineering through the author’s exploits in the U.K. and the Alps to the Himalayas and his alpine-style ascent of Bhagirathi III.
