Description

Published by Victor Gollancz, London, 1985, 1st UK Edition, Insc, D/w, Fine.   This large folio format volume comprises upwards of 200 colour photographs, depicting all the main peaks and ridges of the Mont Blanc range, all taken by Walter Bonatti (1930-2011), one of the best known alpinists of all time and one of the finest mountain photographers.  Bonatti made numerous first and solo Alpine ascents, in both summer and winter, during his climbing career, along with the first ascent of Gasherbrum IV and he played a controversial role in the successful 1954 Italian K2 Expedition. He gave up extreme mountaineering in 1965 (at the age of 35), seeking adventure in the more remote regions of the world as a photo-journalist.
