Description
Published by George Allen & Unwin, London, 1980, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. Galen Rowell (1940-2002) was an accomplished American mountaineer, wilderness photographer, author and adventure photojournalist, who was tragically killed, along with his wife, in a plane crash in California in 2002. This large-format, very well illustrated with excellent colour photographs, volume explores the effects of modern life and tourism on the world’s highest places: the mountains of Nepal, India and Pakistan, expressing concerns for the traditional way of life with the advent of waves of tourists – and this was written over 40 years ago! Includes some of his Himalayan adventures and ascents on Great Trango Tower, Nun Kun and Annapurna. The book’s title comes from a Dawa Tenzing quote in 1973 at his home in Thyangboche Monastery “Many people come; looking, looking, taking picture. Too many people. No good . . . Some people come, see. Good!”
