Memoirs of a Fellwanderer

Published by Michael Joseph, London, 1993, 1st Edition, D/w, Fine.   Alfred Wainwright MBE (1907-1991), who preferred to be known as A.W., was an English fellwalker, guidebook author and illustrator.  He is best known for his seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, published between 1955 and 1966, and consisting entirely of reproductions of his manuscript and drawings, which has become the standard reference work to the 214 fells of the English Lake District.  He was a prolific author, publishing more than 40 books, including A Coast to Coast Walk (1973) (a long distance footpath devised by Wainwright) and his Pennine Way Companion (1968).  This volume, published shortly after his death in 1991, is an updated version of his earlier autobiographies, Fellwanderer (1966) and Ex-Fellwanderer (1987) with new material, with a Foreword by his widow.
