Description
Published by Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1948, 1st UK Edition, spine faded, No D/w, V.G. H.W. Tilman (1898-1977) was a prominent twentieth century English mountaineer, famous for both his Himalayan explorations, often with Eric Shipton, and later in life, his sailing voyages and explorations. His final voyage was in 1977, in his eightieth year, when Simon Richardson’s boat En Avant, in which he was sailing, disappeared after leaving Rio De Janeiro bound for Port Stanley. This volume is an account of the 1938 Mount Everest Expedition, which consisted of a small and very strong team including Tilman, Eric Shipton, Frank Smythe and Noel Odell. This attempt was from the the Tibetan side and reached 8,300 meters on the North Ridge before being unluckily thwarted by an early monsoon.
