Description

Published by Chelsea House, New York University Press, 1974, 1st US Edition, Insc, D/w (slight nicks), Nr.Fine.   Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world at 8,167 metres, was first climbed by a Swiss team, including Kurt Diemberger, in 1960, who gave it the name ‘Mountain of Storms’.  This book chronicles two American expeditions of 1969 and 1973, the former tragic (5 climbers and 2 Sherpas losing their lives in an ice avalanche) and the latter a mixture of triumph (Lou Reichardt and John Roskelley making the fourth ascent) and failure. It is written by two of the climbers who were on the successful 1973 expedition and is both well illustrated and well written.
