Description

Published by Public Affairs Perseus, New York, 2010, 1st US Edition, D/w, Fine.   On 30th September 2006, dozens of climbers on Cho Oyu, on the border between Nepal and Tibet, heard gunfire. It came from Chinese border guards firing at Tibetans fleeing through Nepal to India – the outcome was the death of a 17 year-old nun, witnessed by dozens of western climbers. Green’s steely analysis of events, both at the time and leading up to the shooting, sheds much light on a perennial human rights crisis. Winner of the Banff Mountain Book Competition in the Mountain and Wilderness Category, also the American Society of Journalists and Authors Outstanding Non Fiction Book of the Year.
