Published by Macmillan, London, 2000, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. In 1986, during a solo climb in Eastern Tibet, Messner encountered a creature which he believed could be living proof of the existence of the Yeti, or Abominable Snowman. During the subsequent 11 years, Messner undertakes expeditions through Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh and Northern India, always at least in part looking for further evidence of the Yeti. He also carefully researches available evidence and his conclusion is that the animal on which the myth is based is actually a Chemo or Dremo, a type of large brown bear.
