The story of that tragic climb, told with sensitivity and passion, is the subject of this controversial and long-awaited book.  The expedition was led by Willi Unsoeld and included his daughter Nanda Devi Unsoeld who was determined to climb the mountain after which she was named – however, she died on the expedition, creating controversy over whether someone so inexperienced should have been allowed onto the team.
