Description

Published by Elek Books, London, 1954, 1st UK Edition, Insc, some foxing, D/w (a few nicks), V.G.   Includes a good summary of the earlier expeditions from the 1895 British Expedition on which Mummery disappeared to the numerous German expeditions of the 1930s, including the disastrous expeditions in 1934 and 1937, on which a total of 25 climbers and Sherpas died.  The successful ascent in 1953 came from Hermann Buhl’s famous solo climb to the summit, without oxygen – the only 8,000 metre peak to have had a solo first ascent.
