Description
Published by Kummerley & Frey, Berne, 1971, 3rd English Language Edition (following editions in 1960 and 1970), Insc, D/w (very small piece missing at top of spine/rear board), Nr. Fine. Toni Hagen (1917 – 2003) was a Swiss geologist and a pioneer of Swiss development assistance. He first travelled to Nepal in 1950, having been commissioned by the United Nations to undertake the first geological survey of the entire country. The author, having covered 8,700 miles on foot through Nepalese valleys and passes, could claim to know Nepal better than any other foreigner. This large-format volume, a photo-survey in colour and black-and-white of Nepal, captures a comprehensive picture of the country’s people, the landscape, and its built environment. A beautiful, authoritative book, which Neate refers to as “The best general account of the country”.
