Published by The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, India, March 1965, 1st Edition, Illustrated with black-and-white photographs, D/w (some wear but in protective sleeve), V.G.   The account by the expedition leader of the controversial ‘first ascent’ of Nilkantha (or Nilakantha as titled here) in June 1961, following seven previously unsuccessful attempts to climb this difficult mountain, the so called “Queen of the Garhwal”, and dubbed by Frank Smythe as “second only to Siniolchu in Himalayan beauty”.  The Himalayan Club studied the ascent and concluded that the summit had not been reached, though the Indian Mountaineering Federation ratified the ascent late in 1963.  The generally accepted first ascent was made in 1974 by a party from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
