Showell Styles (1908-2005) was an English writer and mountaineer, who produced over 160 books, the majority of them general fiction for adults and children, but also a significant number of both fiction (under the pseudonym Glyn Carr) and non-fiction works on mountaineering between 1949 and 2002. This volume is a well written and illustrated general history covering the ‘Golden Age’ in the Alps through Mount Cook, Mt McKinley, North Faces, Nanga Parbat, Everest, K2, and the New Golden Age through the 1950’s and 1960’s following the successful ascent of Everest.
