Published by Mitchell Beazley, London, 1995, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. Galen Rowell (1940-2002) was an accomplished American mountaineer, wilderness photographer, author and adventure photojournalist, who was tragically killed, along with his wife, in a plane crash in California in 2002. Large format landscape volume with the usual excellent colour photography from Rowell, one of the pre-eminent photographers of the outdoor world. In this volume, Rowell compares and contrasts the Arctic and Antarctic, firstly in an opening section, followed by ‘Polar Short Stories’ and a section of Essays about the photographs which provides much more detailed information on the story behind each photograph.
