Description
Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1988, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. In 1986, when the Eastern Karakoram was opened to foreign expeditions, Peter Hillary was a member of a joint Indo-Australian Expedition attempting the first ascent of the remote Rimo 1, one of the world’s highest unclimbed peaks at 7,385 metres. They were the first foreigners since Shipton forty years earlier to set out along this section of the Silk Road from Leh, capital of Ladakh towards the mountain. The first half of the book covers their travel adventures getting to the mountain and the second half their two attempts on Rimo and getting to within sight of the summit before ultimately being thwarted by bad weather.
