Published by Libreria Alpina / Priuli, Italy, October 1984, A facsimile reprint of the 1859 1st Edition, Fine.   This reprint is a limited numbered edition of 500 copies in the large format of the original (47 by 32 cms, but 49 by 34 cms overall in its case).  The facsimile is a softback with card covers, but is housed in a gilt-blocked leatherette solander case.  An introduction in Italian is followed by the full facsimile of the original English edition, including the 12 full-colour plates.  The original edition is “One of the rarest and most valuable of all mountaineering books” (Neate).  Edmund Thomas Coleman (1823-1892) was an artist and mountaineer.  He was an original member of the Alpine Club and elected to the first committee of the club.  He climbed Mont Blanc twice during the period he was making sketches for this volume, and was also a member of the first ascent party on Mount Baker in The Cascades in 1868, following unsuccessful attempts in 1864 and 1866 – the Coleman Glacier on Mount Baker is named after him.
